چکیده

White rot fungi produce extracellular phenoloxidases and can decompose lignin efficiently. Elfvingia applanata has been successfully applied for the bioconversion of bisphenol A, suggesting the usefulness of white rot fungi for bioremediation. In order to attain real bioremediation, the recycling of ecomolecules in the ecosystem is important. The sophisticated symbiotic system of white rot fungi of the genera Termitomyces with fungusgrowing termites is an attractive example of an efficient natural system to be studied, in which cooperation between termites and fungi accomplishes efficient decomposition of lignin and complete biorecycling of plant litter.

Bioremediation and Detoxification of the Textile Wastewater with Membrane Bioreactor Using the White-rot Fungus and Reuse of Wastewater

Background: Application of membrane technology to wastewater treatment has expanded over the last decades due to increasingly stringent legislation, greater opportunities for water reuse/recycling processes and continuing advancement in membrane technology. Objectives: In the present study, a bench-scale submerged microfiltration membrane bioreactor (MBR) was used to assess the treatment of tex...

The potential for white-rot fungi in the treatment of pollutants

Lignin-degrading white-rot fungi have the unique ability to degrade/mineralize a broad spectrum of structurally diverse toxic environmental pollutants. Extracellular peroxidases are important in degrading some, but not all, xenobiotic compounds. More research is needed to realize the potential of white-rot fungi in field-scale applications. Recent progress in our knowledge of the biochemistry a...

Is the hope for a cellulosic biofuel a lot of rot?

Compared with the small amount of fermentable sugars in corn kernels, lignocellulose obtained from agricultural waste products or non-food crops is an abundant natural resource that can be used for the production of ethanolbased biofuel. However, the rigid structure linking cellulose and hemicellulose to lignin, while rather handy for plants, restricts the availability of fermentable sugars nec...

Determination of lignin-modifying enzymes (LMEs) in Hyphodermella species using biochemical and molecular techniques

White-rot basidiomycetes are one of the most important lignolytic microorganisms. These fungi have been reported to secrete three main classes of lignin degrading enzymes: lignin peroxidases (LiPs), manganese peroxidases (MnPs) and laccases. In this study, for the first time the lignin degrading capability of two plant pathogens i.e. Hyphodermella rosae and H. corrugata was evaluated using both...

Symbiotic fungi produce laccases potentially involved in phenol degradation in fungus combs of fungus-growing termites in Thailand.

Fungus-growing termites efficiently decompose plant litter through their symbiotic relationship with basidiomycete fungi of the genus Termitomyces. Here, we investigated phenol-oxidizing enzymes in symbiotic fungi and fungus combs (a substrate used to cultivate symbiotic fungi) from termites belonging to the genera Macrotermes, Odontotermes, and Microtermes in Thailand, because these enzymes ar...
